The people of Maiduguri have been profoundly affected by the ongoing insurgency, resulting in significant mental and psychological distress. In response to this critical issue, the Shuwa Foundation for Health has shifted its focus towards addressing the deteriorating mental health sector in the region.
Last week, the Foundation conducted a visit to the Borno State Correctional Center, where it engaged in meaningful dialogue with the State Commandant of the Maximum Security Prison. During this visit, the Foundation had the opportunity to interact directly with inmates, providing them with hope and offering guidance to support their mental well-being.
The Shuwa Foundation for Health is fully committed to revitalizing and reorienting mental health services for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees, not only within Northeast Nigeria but across the entire northern region. Through these efforts, the Foundation aims to alleviate the psychological burden borne by affected populations and foster resilience in communities recovering from conflict.
By prioritizing mental health, the Foundation strives to create lasting positive impact, helping individuals regain stability and empowering them to rebuild their lives in a region deeply scarred by insurgency.
